Coming Fall 2019! Rabbit Hole of White Lies
No matter what his mother says, Chet knows the car accident that killed his older brother seven years ago was his fault. After all, he whined like only a ten-year-old brat could. If they hadn’t gone to the skate demo, Bobby would still be alive. Maybe then his father, a well-known energy researcher, wouldn’t have drowned himself in the Pacific. Was it over Bobby’s death, or did he fake his drowning because he couldn’t stand to be around the son who was at fault? His body was never found. Could he be alive? Although his mother insists his father is dead and never blamed him for Bobby’s death, Chet’s doubts grow stronger each day. Would he ever learn the truth about his father? Would he ever be free of the paralyzing guilt? Chet never again took his skateboard with him in a car because he feared another disaster. He and his mother later moved from California to a Virginia farm, and it’s a skateboarder’s dream—half pipe, bowl, ramps, and benches for grinds. Then came the day his girlfriend sensed someone in the woods watching them. Her feelings were rarely wrong, but why would anyone be spying on a couple of skateboarders? Follow Chet down a spiraling rabbit hole of white lies to discover the answers that might free him. Classroom Enrichment
I would love to talk to students about the process writers use to produce a publishable work or what the publishing options are in today’s book industry. Many middle and high school teachers are skilled at teaching writing, but students may more readily accept what they’re learning if it’s reinforced by an outside author. Students may also be curious about how to get published. I have extensive information on the state of the industry today, including aspects of traditional and indy publishing. Publishing has changed drastically in the last several years, and there are many more publishing opportunities; however, there are also some pitfalls. I would design a presentation suitable for your specific needs. I use PowerPoint and provide valuable handouts. What’s in it for me? Frankly, I sometimes miss interacting with students. It’s also an opportunity to pay it forward; we all have been helped by others throughout our lives. Of course, I would be increasing my exposure to the audience for whom I write. Think this would be a valuable enrichment experience for your students? If you live in my area or one that I sometimes visit, you could receive special consideration. Feel free to contact me for more information. I’m the author of Incidental Daughter, a couple of award-winning plays, and a couple of film scripts for local film makers. I taught writing for many years, have been a consultant for the Northern Virginia Writing Project, organized a few writing groups, researched the book industry extensively, and currently serve on the board of the Santa Fe Chapter of the Association of Publishers for Special Sales (APSS). Find me on Goodreads, too.
